Welcome to Lynches Lake Historical Society online!
Lynches Lake is the name of a series of South Carolina lakes stretching from roughly Johnsonville to Olanta. From Colonial times, deeds and plats were identified by this name. These lakes now have lost much of their identifiable features due to the lowering of the water table but they may still be seen on satellite images of this region.
From the establishment of the US Postal Service (and the Confederate States postal system as well) until 1873, the Lake City, SC, area post office was named Lynches Lake.
The Lynches Lake Historical Society exists to capture and preserve the history of the people who settled here and their progeny. While geneaolgy is our primary focus, we work with organizations, such as the National Bean Market Museum, to educate and display the industry, enterprise and accomplishments of our antecedents.
We invite you to explore any family or emotional ties you may have with our region and to use our resources. Let us know if we can help.
